Robert COMBAS brought, at the begining of the 1980's, a new figurative painting. On the artistic scene since 1979, he created an art movement called by Ben « Free Figuration ». His painting is full of liberties : it talks about society, violence, sexuality, suffering, people's little happiness, their smallness, their greatness...

It is inspired by the rock, that the artist loves, popular images, children's books, school's manuals, , whatever makes a popular culture reachable for everyone. The painter, icon of the Free Figuration, became engraver for a set of remarquable works. Faithful to his popular culture and his provocative mind, his iconography is free and inspired above all.
